proj_ MICRO KINETICS_

type_ research / materials / project in collaboration with UCL bartlett school of architecture_

about_ sub-millimetre design of kinetic motion in materials. A Research project between University College London's
Bartlett School of Architecture and BREADltd. The project explores design and construction of bespoke materials with
custom microstructures that offer new interactions for products and industry_

A pair of composite materials are tensile tested to examine their behaviour. In the first clip a standard unidirectionally
fibre (an arrangement common to most major composite manufacture) is tested. In the second clip a new microkinetically designed structure is tested featuring layers of a gradient mesh that varies poisson's ratio across the material_

type_ research / Iinteractive experiements into body schemas_

about_ based on a review of contemporary neurosensory, proprioception, and body image research, this prototype was developed to explore transferring physical movement and sensation between two sets of hands. The device allows one user to direct the movement of, and receive the touch feedback from another user's hands. Neither person relinquishes control, rather they must work together to form a hybrid of two sets of hands. By working together and focusing on a task, both participants experience the odd sensation of beginning to expand the boundaries of their bodies_

about_ an explartory project in assocation with the AA, chop.stix is a 3 metre tall structure built from common chopsticks. The structures unique form is based upon the development of a fixed geometry unit cells and reapprorpriaton of casting techniques using a minimal mould system that allowed rapid construction in a method echoing mound formation by termites_

about_ skins are caps that allow you to use as little or as much of your fruit and vegetables as you like. As most produce only dries out and degrades once its protective outer layer is broken, Skins complete this barrier to maintain the natural function of a sealed container. This initial range focuses on produce most commonly used in parts, such as lemons, grapefruits or onions. Skins not only extend the life of left over fruit and vegetables but also provide a strong visual cue as to which items are in use. There are four different products that form the Skins range so far. These products are a lemon skin + squeezer, a grapefruit skin, an onion skin and an onion skin + vase_
